A superb Griot wins the 2019 Super Cup Massi

The French rider led the race from the second lap and showed no signs of weakness to win the Vallnord-Pal Arinsal race and take the general championsh

There is no better setting for an international championship than the Super Cup Massi, in which the champions are decided in the final race. An outstanding selection of riders thanks to its UCI C1 status, level pegging until the last race, and a World Cup circuit are all the ingredients needed for a unique mountain bike event, such as Vallnord-Pal Arinsal.

The perfect way to close the event’s second edition, which boasts cyclists from all over the world, many UCI points up for grabs and authentic XCO on various circuits.

Griot made sure his rivals had no room to breathe

After the World Championship and the World Cup final, Vallnord-Pal Arinsal, great international riders such as Jofre Cullell (Megamo Factory Team) and Thomas Griot (Team Massi) grappled for the general of the 2019 Super Cup Massi.

Whoever won the race would take the prized Championship jersey and any wrong move would prove decisive. From the word go, Team Massi got a firm hold over the front group thanks to a brilliant first lap from Drechou and Griot’s ambition. The only one to hold out was Cullell, who didn't want to lose his lead.

Halfway through the race the three riders continued at the helm with everything to be decided in the dying moments. And so it was, with a bout of strength, Griot attacked with a lap and a half to go causing Cullell to fall back, unable to keep up with the Frenchman’s strong pace. Griot was heading for victory with a more than coveted double prize: his first ever victory in the Super Cup Massi and the general championship. In the end, Drechou finished second and Cullell third.

Lecomte leaves her opponents with few options and Figueras takes the general

In the women's category, the French U-23 champion, Lecomte, attacked from the start of the race leaving behind all her rivals and demonstrating her great form.

Behind her the battle was truly exciting. Although Figueras wanted to become champion of the general classification she didn't have the best start, lagging way behind. However, the Catalan rider finally began to set her own pace overtaking various competitors until she was able to fight it out for second place with Clàudia Galícia. The Megamo Factory Team rider stayed firm, nevertheless, with Figueras clinching the third spot in the general championship.

As competitors are well aware, Vallnord-Pal Arinsal is a physically and technically demanding circuit, which meant that at this point in the season, everyone had no choice but to give it their all at the event.

Elsewhere, the Andorra XCO championship also took place with the following winners:

Elite: Guy Diaz

U-23: Kilian Folguera

Junior: Stefan Ancion

Master 40: Alexandre Bellera

Master 50: Emili Pérez
