The Banyoles Super Cup Massi returns as Hors Categorie and UCI Junior Series, opening the Olympic calendar with the best cyclists in the world23-10-2019
Registration for the Banyoles Super Cup Massi, which will be held on 22 and 23 February, opens on 14 November.
Across one weekend, Banyoles will become the world centre of mountain biking, with the first race of the Super Cup Massi and the Copa Catalana Internacional Biking Point 2020. The international XCO elite will descend on Banyoles to celebrate the now historic cross country event which, year after year, takes mountain biking to the next level around the Lake of Banyoles.
2020 is going to be a special year. Reaching the Tokyo Olympic Games is the main objective and for that, the maximum number of UCI points are needed. That means that a large part of these coveted points will be up for grabs in the UCI Hors Categorie race, since it is the season’s first moment of truth for the vast majority of the world’s top riders.
The circuit will remain true to its style: fast and full of bends, to make for exciting races in groups with even more exciting outcomes.
The place known as ‘the capital of mountain biking’ will turn out in its finest regalia once again, with thousands of fans filling the circuit wanting to witness two days jam-packed with excitement. As one of the XCO competitions that attracts the most spectators in Europe, the atmosphere in Banyoles is worthy of the World Cup.
What’s more, for the second year it will be part of the UCI Junior Series, where the cycling world’s bright young promises will come face to face. They’ll be able to make a name for themselves on the international stage for the first time in Banyoles, which will celebrate its 19th edition.
The opening of the Super Cup Massi is more than just a race, it’s the starting point of the circuit with the second-most points in the world and the beginning of a year that is set to be unforgettable with the Tokyo Olympic Games on the horizon.
